Voices From the Workshop Log
Somchai Klahan
Bangkok · Mechanical Servicing
"I brought in a Seiko 5 that had been running about four minutes fast every day. Wela Naga serviced the movement, found a worn mainspring, and replaced it along with the full lubrication routine. It now runs within five seconds per day. The condition report they gave me on collection was a nice touch — I didn't expect that level of documentation."

"My grandfather's Longines from the 1960s had been sitting in a drawer for over a decade. I was nervous to bring it anywhere — some places I'd called before just wanted to swap out original parts without asking. Wela Naga discussed each step with me first, sourced period-appropriate components, and kept me updated throughout. It's running now, and it still looks like itself."

Expat, Bangkok · Battery & Quartz
"As an expat I'd been struggling to find a watch repair place in Bangkok where I could actually communicate properly. Wela Naga handles everything in English, which removes a lot of friction. Battery replacement done same week, watch came back clean and pressure-tested. Straightforward, as it should be."

"My ETA 2824-based watch had started losing about two minutes a day. I'd read some places online suggesting quick fixes, but I wanted someone to actually look at the movement properly. They did — found a worn pallet stone, quoted the additional part before touching it, and the watch is now running within a few seconds per day. Service took a little over two weeks, which I thought was reasonable."

Phuket · Heritage Restoration
"I came to Bangkok specifically to use Wela Naga for a 1954 Omega Seamaster that had been in my family. The restoration took about eight weeks in total, but they contacted me at each stage. The dial was cleaned carefully rather than refinished — which is what I wanted — and the movement was rebuilt with old stock parts they'd sourced. I was satisfied with how they approached something they knew I cared about."

Singapore (visiting) · Battery & Quartz
"Was in Bangkok for work and had a Tissot quartz that needed a battery. Found Wela Naga online, walked in, and they sorted it within two days — which worked fine for my schedule. Gasket was also replaced, which I appreciated since the watch gets worn in the sea occasionally. Solid work."

Case Studies
Three Watches, Three Stories
Case Study 01 — Heritage Restoration
The Challenge
A 1968 Citizen automatic arrived with a seized crown, a cracked crystal, and a movement that had not run in approximately twelve years. The owner wanted to pass it to a younger family member as a functioning, wearable watch.
The Work
Crown and stem were replaced after sourcing period-compatible components. Movement was fully disassembled, cleaned, and rebuilt. Crystal was replaced with a period-appropriate acrylic dome. Case was cleaned but not polished — preserving original surface wear at the owner's request.
The Outcome
Watch returned running at +8 seconds per day — within tolerance for a 57-year-old movement. Owner received a full work record and timing report. Project duration: six weeks.
Case Study 02 — Mechanical Servicing
The Challenge
A daily-wear Miyota 8215 automatic had developed an intermittent power reserve problem — running normally for a few hours then stopping. Several battery shops had misidentified it as a quartz and sent the owner away.
The Work
On movement inspection, the mainspring barrel bridge had a hairline crack causing intermittent slip. Replacement barrel assembly sourced and fitted. Full service — cleaning, lubrication, timing — completed alongside the repair.
The Outcome
Watch returned running consistently at +4 seconds per day with full power reserve. Client had previously been advised by two shops to "replace the movement entirely" — the actual repair cost was significantly lower than that recommendation. Project duration: three weeks.
Case Study 03 — Quartz Care & Restoration
The Challenge
A 1990s Seiko quartz diver had been left with a leaking crown seal for too long — moisture had entered the case and caused light corrosion on the dial edges and movement. The watch was stopped and the owner was unsure whether restoration was worth pursuing.
The Work
Movement was dried and assessed — corrosion had not reached the quartz module. Case and case back were cleaned and resealed with fresh gaskets. Dial corrosion was minimal and stabilised without requiring refinishing. New battery and crown seal fitted.
The Outcome
Watch returned fully functional and water-resistant to its rated depth. Client was advised to have the crown seal inspected every two years going forward. Project duration: one week.
